Center for Science and Technology at Tiffin University

As we begin the spring semester, we have much to be excited and grateful about. We will formally celebrate the opening of our long-awaited Center for Science and Technology at a ribbon-cutting ceremony from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., on Thursday, February 3. This building represents a visual symbol of our collective work over the past five years to develop and grow STEAM-related programs and provide our students with state-of-the-art learning facilities for our students.

While there are many people to thank for the dedication and commitment to creating this learning space for our students, I want to acknowledge the work of the academic leadership and faculty of the School of Arts and Sciences for making this building a reality. Dr. Hall-Yates has been a true champion for this building, along with the faculty in allied health and sciences. Without their countless hours of planning and preparation, we would not have been able to reach the finish line with an amazing 24,000 square feet of space that will provide active learning and hands-on opportunities for our students. This Center is truly transformational and will make a positive difference in the lives of our students. Please join me in congratulating and thanking Dr. Hall-Yates and the faculty for bringing this dream to fruition.

The continued growth and professional development of our faculty is paramount to our success as an academic institution. Congratulations to the following faculty who have successfully defended their dissertations. To accomplish the milestone of learning, a doctoral degree is significant and worthy of recognition.

Dr. Diego Hernadez successfully defended his dissertation on 11/9/2021 with Northcentral University. Diego’s dissertation title is: Corporate Financial Performance and Corporate Social Responsibility when Controlling for Socially and Environmentally Conscious Investments.

Dr. David Selnick successfully defended his dissertation on 1/21/22 with Newcastle University, United Kingdom. David’s dissertation title is: Assessing US Military Personnel and Cultural Heritage Professionals' Beliefs Regarding the Relevance of the 1954 Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict and its Protocols to Modern Conflict.

The School of CJSS will be partnering with the School of Arts and Sciences this summer to put together a newly renamed Forensic Science and Criminalistics Academy. The new Center for Science and Technology will play an important role in the forensic science area, and CJSS personnel will be significantly involved in the criminalistics portion of the camp.

Student Success Stories:

  • TU Alumni Jehad Alyahya has been accepted into the PhD in Criminal Justice program at the University of New Haven, New Haven, Connecticut. Jehad received his MSCJ in Forensic Psychology in 2018 and his BCJ as a double major in Homeland Security and Terrorism and in Law Enforcement. FROM THE SCHOOL OF BUSINESS

The Accounting faculty are working on documentation to become an Institute of Management Accounting (IMA) recognized program. The IMA’s Higher Education Endorsement Program is a stamp of excellence. It signifies that our accounting program provides the rigorous curriculum needed for students to prepare for the CAM exam and successful careers in management.

School Benefits:

  • Recognition on IMA’s website
  • Additional distinction beyond accreditation
  • Program validation and evaluation of curriculum content

Student Benefits:

  • The opportunity to apply for the IMA Student Leadership Experience Program
  • Assurance that the curriculum has been reviewed to provide comprehensive coverage of CMA exam topics
  • Students can stand out as they graduate and take the CMA exam while still in school.

The Finance faculty are working on documentation to become a recognized Chartered Financial Analysts (CFA) University Affiliation Program. An Affiliated University signals to students and to employers that the curriculum is closely tied to the practice of investment management, including the Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct, and is helpful to students preparing for the CFA Program exams. In addition to having the CFA affiliation designation and recognition, the University is able to award three CFA Program student scholarships each year.

Student Success Stories:

  • Following her recent Internship, Madeline Schussler-Recker was hired as a full-time group and season ticket consultant for Toledo Walleye and Mud Hens.
  • Doctoral candidate, Dave Farler successfully defended his dissertation to become the first PhD graduate in the history of Tiffin University.
