R. Diane Schmallegger, Ed.D.
Director of Learning Design
Diane works remotely for Tiffin from Estero, Florida. Her undergraduate degree is from Mesa State College (now Colorado Mesa University) in Mass Communications, with an emphasis in public relations. She worked in the print industry for a number of years as a writer and graphic designer. After earning a master’s in Instructional Technology, she fell in love with online learning – both for the convenience and for the opportunity for thoughtful and deep discussions with peers and instructors. Since that time, She’s had a passion for doing what she can to improve online learning experiences.
She then had an opportunity to work for a company which supported colleges and universities in offering their online programs. There, Diane managed a team supporting faculty in building their courses, trained faculty on how to use the learning management system and how to teach online, and managed the support department. Following that, she worked as Director of Instructional Design at Utah Valley University for their Distance Education Division, and then as an instructional designer for MGM Resorts International in Las Vegas.
She began working for Tiffin University as Senior Online Course Designer in 2019 and was promoted to Director of Learning Design in 2021. She has also taught as an adjunct for University of Maryland Global Campus for their master’s in Distance Education and E-Learning program.
